Description

A sculpture in its own right, the Selenite Layer pendant is created entirely by hand using shards of natural selenite. Named after the Greek goddess of the moon, selenite is known for its soft pearlescent glow similar to moonlight. It is the crystalline version of the mineral Gypsum and is revered by many for its spiritual and protective properties with some believing it unlocks the chakra of divine wisdom. The oldest Selenite crystal ever discovered was 500,000 years old in Chihuahua, Mexico. Suspended like glistening stalactites, the crystals in our Selenite Layer lighting collection are painstakingly affixed to the frame one by one.

For rooms with ceilings under 8 feet, aim to hang fixtures no lower than 7 feet from the floor. In areas with higher ceilings (9 feet or more), you have more flexibility. For each additional foot of ceiling height, increase the drop of the fixture by 3 inches. For a dining table, the general rule is to hang the fixture 30 to 36 inches above the surface.

When hanging a light fixture over a dining table, the width of the fixture plays an important role in achieving comfortable proportions and a visually balanced look. As a general guideline, the fixture should be about 24 to 30 inches narrower than the width of the table—this helps keep the light centered over the dining area without feeling oversized or visually crowding the edges.

For pendants over a kitchen island or dining table, a common rule of thumb is to hang them about 24 to 30 inches apart, measured from the center of one pendant to the center of the next. This spacing keeps the lighting evenly distributed, prevents the pendants from feeling crowded, and helps each piece read clearly as its own design element.
